Caliber vs Carbon Fiber Specs
woofer size
The Monoprice 8" Caliber 2-Way In-Wall Speakers feature an 8-inch woofer cone. This larger driver generally supports deeper bass extension and higher output levels. In contrast, the Monoprice 2-Way Carbon Fiber In-Wall Speakers use a 6.5-inch woofer. The smaller cone size often results in a more compact footprint but may limit low-frequency response compared to the 8-inch model. You should choose the larger driver if your room requires more bass impact from the main speakers.
tweeter type
High-frequency reproduction differs between these two models. The Caliber series uses titanium silk dome tweeters. These pivoting tweeters are designed to provide airy, detailed clarity with defined vocals. The Carbon Fiber model utilizes a ribbon tweeter. Ribbon designs often offer very fast transient response and wide dispersion. You may prefer the silk dome for a warmer, smoother high-end, while the ribbon tweeter might deliver sharper, more precise treble details depending on your source material.
build material
Driver construction affects sound quality and distortion. The Caliber speakers employ DuPont Kevlar fiber cones. This lightweight transducer is noted for clean bass reproduction and significantly less distortion than conventional drivers. The Carbon Fiber speakers use carbon fiber cones. Carbon fiber is known for high stiffness and low mass, which also helps reduce distortion. Both materials aim for accurate sound, but the Kevlar fiber is specifically highlighted for its natural sound characteristics in the Caliber series.
physical dimensions
Installation space is a practical concern. The Caliber speakers measure 11.4 inches in width and 9.2 inches in height. The Carbon Fiber speakers are narrower at 8.9 inches wide but taller at 11.6 inches. Both are in-wall designs, so cutout requirements will vary. You must check your wall cavity depth and available width before mounting. The Caliber model is wider, while the Carbon Fiber model extends higher. Ensure your chosen location accommodates the specific footprint of the selected speaker.
included accessories
Grille inclusion varies by model. The Caliber speakers come with no-logo grills that add to a minimal look. This design choice is noted to increase the Wife Acceptance Factor by blending into the wall. The Carbon Fiber speakers are described as having a magnetic grille in the title. Magnetic grilles allow for easy removal and cleaning. You might prefer the minimal aesthetic of the Caliber or the practicality of the removable magnetic grille on the Carbon Fiber model.
configuration
Both products are sold as pairs. The Caliber speakers are explicitly listed as a pair in the short name and attributes. The Carbon Fiber speakers are also listed as a pair. This means you receive two units for each purchase option. This configuration is standard for stereo in-wall installations. You will need to mount one speaker on the left and one on the right to achieve proper stereo imaging. The pairing ensures balanced sound distribution across your listening area.
Which Monoprice Model Fits Your Setup
Home theater bass lovers
You need deeper low-frequency response for movies and music. The 8-inch Kevlar fiber cone driver in the Caliber series provides better bass extension than the smaller 6.5-inch unit. The titanium silk dome tweeter adds clarity to dialogue and vocals, making this model ideal for immersive surround sound setups where impact matters.
Small room installers
Your mounting space is limited. The 6.5-inch Carbon Fiber model has a more compact footprint with dimensions of 8.9 by 11.6 inches. The ribbon tweeter offers detailed highs without requiring deep wall cavities. This size fits well in tighter spaces while still delivering clear stereo imaging for whole-house audio applications.
Minimalist decor seekers
You prefer a clean, unobtrusive look on your walls. The Caliber speakers feature logo-less grills that blend seamlessly into painted surfaces. This design choice reduces visual clutter. The 8-inch driver ensures you do not compromise on sound quality for aesthetics. The titanium silk dome provides airy clarity that complements modern interior designs.
